The Director of Nursing (DON) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the delivery of healthcare and nursing services at our facility, ensuring exceptional care for our residents around the clock. Responsible for leading a team of licensed and non-licensed staff, the DON sets the standard for quality care and operational excellence. This position involves strategic management of nursing personnel, development and implementation of policies and procedures, and adherence to regulatory guidelines to uphold the highest standards of resident care. The DON serves as a key liaison between residents, families, staff, and the community, fostering a supportive environment where compassionate care and professional integrity are paramount.

  • 1 Position: Long Beach
  • 1 Position: East Neck
  • 1 Position: Morningside (Bronx)

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements nursing service objectives, policies, and procedures to maintain quality nursing care.
  • Determines staffing levels and monitors for adequacy in provision of nursing care.
  • Monitors nursing schedules and implements protocols for identified shift openings.
  • Maintains Nurse On-Call rotation to ensure coverage for clinical needs and staffing deficiencies.
  • Oversees all administrative functions in the Nursing Department.
  • Recommends and collaborates in in-service education programs to promote staff development.
  • Monitors the quality and type of care provided for all residents.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Coordinates and facilitates regular staff meetings and continuous education programs.
  • Develops and monitors budgets and resource allocation within the nursing department.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and administrative staff to promote and ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Manages the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and performance evaluations of nursing staff.
  • Oversees infection control procedures and ensures compliance with safety protocols.
  • Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives and best practices in nursing care.
  • Other duties as needed and/or assigned.
  • In the absence of the Nursing Home Administrator, the Director of Nursing Services is responsible for the overall operations of the facility.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Minimum of five years of responsible nursing experience, with at least three years in a management or supervisory role, preferably in a long-term care facility.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing best practices, regulatory requirements, and healthcare standards.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills with a proven track record of staff development and retention.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with residents, families, staff, and the community.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and respect for the principles of resident rights, confidentiality (HIPAA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant healthcare technology.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, as well as analyze financial and operational data.

Compensation:

  • Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
